ACWA Power has firmed power purchase agreements (PPAs) and investment agreements with the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan (NEGU) and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, respectively. The agreements are related to six new projects to be deployed by ACWA Power in the country.
ACWA Power plans to install three photovoltaic (PV) plants in Tashkend and Samarkand and three battery energy storage systems (BESS) facilities in Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand. PV capacity will total 1.4GW of renewable energy, while the BESS facilities will add 1.5GWh of energy storage capacity.
Tashkent will receive a 400MW PV plant and a 500MWh BESS project. Two 500MW solar farms and a 500WMh BESS plant will be located in Samarkand, while the remaining 500MWh BESS facility will be built in Bukhara.
The company already has five ongoing projects in Uzbekistan, of which four are wind power projects and one is a gas cycle turbine plant.
